Linked P-12 PBIS Initiative

The Linked P-12 PBIS initiative is a federally funded grant that extends PBIS to preschool.  This initiative provides school districts high quality targeted support in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) and active support from the Office of Special Education and Early Learning Programs (OSEEL). This work is done in partnership with the State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) to build capacity and sustainability through active implementation science in the use of PBIS.

Research on implementation of PBIS shows that children have better social skills and less problem behavior in classrooms and teachers are able to implement PBIS practices better if they receive training and practice-based coaching.  Through implementation of the Pyramid Model framework, an opportunity for high quality early education and a seamless transition from preschool to kindergarten in your district is possible through this initiative.

What is the Pyramid Model? The Pyramid Model is a conceptual framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children’s healthy social and emotional development. Pyramid Model implementation provides a tiered intervention framework of evidence-based interventions for promoting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of preschoolers who are typically developing and who have or are at risk for developmental delays or disabilities (http://www.challengingbehavior.org).

The benefits of partnering with Linked P-12 PBIS:

  • Support from a Linked P-12 PBIS coach through the RTC to assist with the implementation of the pyramid model

  • Assistance in collecting and responding to data in order to make decisions in the implementation of PBIS from preschool to kindergarten

  • On-site technical assistance, training, and coaching in the extension of PBIS to preschool
